What is a consumer finance loan?
A consumer loan is another term for a personal loan. This means that you can use a consumer loan for any personal expenses you may incur that you cannot reasonably afford to pay outright; a consumer loan allows you to repay your loan in manageable instalments over a set period of time. We offer three types of consumer loans: small loans, medium loans and large loans.

||6 to 12 months
||$2,100 to $4,600
||13 to 24 months
||$5,000 to $10,000
||13 to 24 months
We offer unsecured loans for our small loan tiers as there is less risk involved in lending smaller amounts. Our medium and large loans are secured loans; this means you must have an asset to attach to your loan as collateral. This allows us to continue to offer competitive rates on all of our loans. If you would like more information about our loan terms, including our competitive fixed interest rate offerings and any other possible fees and charges, refer to our costs page.
What can I use a consumer loan for?
We provide financial support for a variety of personal expenses. Whether you have had an expensive vet bill come out of nowhere or chipped your tooth, you can use a consumer loan to cover the initial costs. If you are unsure whether you can use a consumer loan for your unexpected expenses, here are some of the most common reasons we receive consumer loan applications:
How to apply
If you are ready to apply for a consumer loan, it couldn’t be easier with our simple online application form. Within just a few minutes you can submit your application; we will endeavour to get back to you within just 60-minutes*. We support instant transfers on approval, meaning that your cash could be in your account and ready to use within just 60-seconds of approval**. Follow these simple steps to apply:
Step 1: Complete your online application form
Step 2: Our team assesses your application
Step 3: We will let you know whether your application was successful
Step 4: If you were approved for your loan, review and sign your contract
Step 5: Receive your money
We have standard eligibility criteria that all of our applicants must meet before we can approve their loan. It may be helpful to ensure that you meet the following criteria before you apply:
- You are at least 18 years old
- You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- You have had consistent income into your bank account for at least 90 days
- You have an active mobile number and email address
- You have internet banking set up
While we do not require physical paperwork, we must still receive digital copies of the following supporting documents. In order to streamline your application processing time, please ensure you submit these documents at the time of your application:
- 100 points of identification
- Your basic personal information (full name, date of birth, address etc.)
- The reason for your loan
- Your online banking details (so that we can access copies of your bank statements)
- Your myGov details (if you receive Centrelink benefits)
Consumer loans for customers with bad credit
Jacaranda Finance is an online lender. This means that we can be more lenient than traditional lenders, such as banks and credit unions, and are able to offer bad credit loans to eligible borrowers that meet our lending criteria. We conduct a thorough financial analysis of all of our applicant’s by using current bank statements to ensure that a loan is manageable. If we find that an applicant can reasonably manage their loan repayments, even with a poor credit history, we may be able to provide them with a quick loan.
All of our applicants are subject to an individual assessment. We must still conduct credit checks on all of our applications in line with responsible lending guidelines set by ASIC. However, a bad credit score will not be the determining factor in your application.
If you still have questions about our consumer loans, you may find your answers below.
How much can I borrow?
We offer consumer loans from $300 to $10,000; you can apply for any amount within this range and our team will assess your affordability. Your repayments will vary depending on how much you borrow.
How do I repay my loan?
We will set up a direct debit in line with your current pay cycle. Your repayments will automatically be deducted from your account on this selected day. When your loan has been repaid in full, the direct debits will stop.
Can I get a consumer loan if I’m on Centrelink benefits?
We consider most forms of Centrelink income as regular income. As long as you have been receiving your government benefits for at least 90 days and meet the rest of our eligibility criteria, we may be able to provide you with a consumer loan.
Can I pay off my loan early without fees?
We do not charge early settlement fees on any of our loans. This means that if you are in the position to do so, you can pay off your loan early without additional costs. Typically, early exit fees can range up to $800; this will not be a worry with Jacaranda Finance.
